Knitting the Autumn League Pullover, Knitflix, and the Mountains

I finally knit the Autumn League Pullover by Alexi at Two of Wands. It was the first knit sweater pattern I ever considered making. There was something so modern and classic about it. It looked store-bought in the best way. Not in a mass-produced kind of way, but in a professional, polished way.

I really didn't think I could hack it. I made several sweaters before I attempted this pattern. I had a lot of Lion Brand Retweed in this gorgeous peanut butter color, and I really wanted to use it for a top down sweater. I had never made one top down, and I wanted to knit in the round because I hate seaming.
I had two choices, the October Sweater by Originally Lovely, which I still very much want to make (and probably could with all the Retweed I still have left), and the #autumnleaguepullover. Ultimately it was the little x detail in the front and a knit along for the league series pullovers that sold me.
Both of these sweaters patterns are available for free - which is amazing. A LOT of work goes into writing a pattern, particularly one available in 8 sizes with all these little details that make it really unique. The Autumn League Pullover is a very doable pattern even if you don't consider yourself the most advanced knitter.

I started this knit several times trying to figure out how to get the sizing right. I decided to size down because the pattern already had 10-12 inches of positive ease built into my usual size and I was knitting with a worsted weight yarn instead of a dk.

I have linked my favorite knitting needles below and as an Amazon associate I do make a small commission if you purchase.
I also sized up my needles to a US 9. I essentially used the October Sweater pattern as a guide to help me with sizing while using the other pattern to get all the other details.
The best part of making a sweater is all the experiences you have while knitting it that you associate with the sweater once it's done. I started this sweater at the beginning of October, but I really got serious knit time when fall break started.
The first night of break I turned on what I thought was a movie in Netflix's top 10. At the end of the first episode of The Watcher I realized it was a series, and I was completely rapt. I watched three and a half episodes, wielding my knitting needles like weapons, before I finally turned it off and ran to the bedroom because I was terrified the watcher might get me.

I took the sweater with me to Gatlinburg and knit in the mountains for a few days, watching the sunrise from the wrap around porch on our mountain cabin. I kept knitting until we got home. I was on sleeve island by the time break ended and it took me a couple more days - into the beginning of November - before I cast off the last stitch.
